One of the most memorable events we've ever hosted at Turnrow happened last Wednesday, October 13, in celebration of the new book Year of Our Lord. The book's subject, Lucas McCarty, was on hand with lots of family and friends, as well as much of the congregation from the Trinity House of Prayer Holiness church in Morehead, Mississippi, where he is a long-time member of the choir.
After remarks from Trinity's Bishop Willie B. Knighten and the book's author, T.R. Pearson, the gospel performed a rousing set that shook the rafters. After the hour-long program, many were observed staggering around in a kind of stunned ecstasy. One onlooker remarked, "If that don't give you religion, there's no hope for you."
We highly recommend this book for a different view of the Delta, an uncommon story in general, told magnificently through words and photos. We still have a few copies signed by Pearson and photographer Langdon Clay of Sumner, as well as stamped by Lucas McCarty.
Check out some photos from the event, and watch this 30 seconds of the show we captured....
